A tough day out

A short trip over to Carrington to our hosts Sale FC today. A cold winters morning and a bracing breeze met us, along with a team wanting to play and put a win over us after losing to Spitfires at home earlier in the season.
Youngsters have their ‘growth spurt’ at different stages at this age and Sale certainly had a few big lads who carried the ball well. This was a side that was strong in attack, less so in defence but ball retention is key, and they recycled the ball well from the breakdown, running it well along the back line and threatening Spitfires defence. The early lead was taken by Sale FC. Shortly followed by another score before Spitfires were able to put points on the board.
This was a well contested match which produced some lovely rugby and individual skill. Spitfires fought back winning some great turnover ball and running well with some good support play, however Sale FC’s desire for the win was the key factor. As always, some important lessons to take back to the training ground, but a sterling effort from the lads once again. Not the result they wanted, but a great game for the spectator nonetheless.
