With the visitors scoring 14 tries to only one by the home team and having more power, pace and accuracy it was a long afternoon for the Stockport defence. Stockport never gave up and centre Elliot Fletcher scored a consolation try for Stockport after he chased and touched down a kick ahead by Jonny Edwards. On this performance Sedgley, who had an extra stone or two a man will be one of the top teams in the division and Stockport will need to target the teams sharing the lower half of the table to get points in the league. Stockport’s afternoon was made worse by what looked like serious knee injuries to second row Mike Waddington, one of their key players last season, and wing Tom Oban.
The visitors were on the score board after only 3 minutes as their man of the match, scrum half Callum McShane who scored 4 tries took a quick penalty and ran in the 15 metres before Stockport could stop him, kicker Matt Riley knocked over the first of his 10 conversions. Stockport replied with a penalty but Sedgley scored another 5 tries to make it 35-3 at the break.
The second half started in similar vein with Sedgley scoring after only 3 minutes and adding their remaining tries at regular intervals as the Stockport defence was increasingly unable to deal with the continuity and pace of the well drilled visitors. A try from Stockport's Elliott Fletcher try was the only relief.
Next week has Stockport travelling to Birmingham & Solihull
