Stockport enjoyed the sunny dry conditions by putting on a 9 try display of fast attacking rugby to defeat bottom of the table Penrith by 59-13. Chris Roddy opened the scoring in the 1st minute with a charge down and a 30 metre run to the try line and Paul Allen’s try finished it in the 80th minute with Josh Longmore adding 7 conversions to the try he scored.

Following the wind, rain and heavy pitch at Morley last week, when Stockport struggled to get going Saturday proved their liking for fast dry conditions, enabling them to get their passing game going. With both forwards and backs getting in on the act after a scrappy first quarter the Penrith team were unable to compete, despite some positive running from their backs.

Penrith got a penalty for 5-3 and it was 20 minutes before the second Stockport try was added by Simon Green, who had an excellent game at No 8. Longmore was on target and the momentum started to build. Wing Joe Cantwell ran in from 40 metres, Longmore’s conversion bounced back off the posts, but he was on target for all the remaining conversions. Penrith added another penalty before Callum Baldwin added Stockport’s fourth to make it 24-6 at half time.

Roddy was back on the score board in the first minute of the second half following a great run by
Elliott Millar-Mills and good recycling. Minutes later wing Myles Hall scored wide out and a great handling move gave centre Milan Jirman a try on 53 minutes. Longmore scored and converted the eighth try himself for 52-4 before Penrith got an interception and their wing ran 80 metres to score a try that was converted. Stockport had the last word with a try by Paul Allen in the final minute, Longmore converted with the last kick of the game for 59-13.
