Stockport went into second place in the table after a hard fought home win against Beverley in very difficult conditions.

Stockport went into second place in the table after a hard fought home win against Beverley in very difficult conditions. There was no score in the first half, with both sides struggling to take advantage of the possession they had and the defences doing their work well. Stockport missed a couple of chances as Beverley stole their line out in attacking positions 5 metres out. The Beverley scrum dominated all afternoon and Stockport Number 8 Dan Eccles had to deal with ball at the back of a retreating scrum on many occasions. The score was 0-0 at half time and after the break Stockport increased the pace of play scoring two tries and a penalty to just two penalties by Beverley to seal the 13-6 victory.
Immediately after the break Josh Longmore converted a penalty for offside on the Beverley 22 and five minutes later Beverley lost their number 7 for a high tackle on wing Myles Hall as he ran into the Beverley half. The penalty was put into touch on the visitors 22 and after a series of good driving and patient recycling, with the ball going left to right and back again for Hall to crash through the defensive tackles for a try. With the wind against him Longmore was unable to make the conversion. After more good work when Stockport were held up over the try line and a line out was stolen by the excellent Beverley second row, Stockport again maintained continuity and Longmore’s pass was collected by skipper Andy Fuller who dived in at the corner, the wind again prevented the conversion. Beverley then got back into the game but the Stockport defence was solid to keep Beverley out of their 22. There were two penalties conceded, and the Beverley centre converted them both to earn a bonus point but the visitors never looked like scoring a try and the final score was 13-6 to Stockport.
