Stockport were on the score board very quickly after scoring a try in the first 5 minutes. Billingham made a real game of it and there were times when Stockport had to defend well to keep them out, particularly in the last 5 minutes, when the defence was excellent as Billingham camped on the Stockport line to no avail.
The first try for Paul Milea came after good running by the backs, followed by quick use of the ball from a ruck as Milea picked and dived over the line. Josh Longmore converted. Billingham spent some time in the Stockport 22 before the Stockport scrum started to dominate the set piece and it was fortunate for the visitors that their Number 8 had the skill to pick up behind a retreating pack. The second Stockport try came after excellent and patient build up by Stockport with both backs and forwards handling well and Alistair Green going over for the try. Longmore was again on target to make it 14-0. The third try came 15 minutes later as Stockport turned over Billingham possession and prop Elliott Millar-Mills, who had an excellent all round game, took a pass and ran in the last 10 metres to score near the posts, for Longmore to convert for a 21-0 half time lead.
Stockport started the second half with more good passing and continuity but Billingham put the Stockport line under pressure and after some good defence Stockport were eventually unable to prevent the Billingham prop from driving over the line to secure the visitors only points. Stockport were on the attack again from the kick off and after two 5 metre scrums a penalty try was awarded with Billingham collapsing the scrum as Stockport drove them back and Alistair Green controlled the ball well at Number 8, Mark Edwards converted. Stockport completed the scoring with a try for wing Myles Hall on 75 minutes after good patient and sustained recycling and driving by the forwards.
