Stockport were unable to cope with the direct running and power Rossendale generated from the start of the second half and conceded five tries. Despite dominating the scrums with some powerful drives the lineout was a real problem for Stockport and there were too many handling errors and penalties.
A good start had Greg Newton scoring out on the left after a well timed pass by prop Elliot Millar-Mills. Stockport failed to take advantage of several scoring chances while Rossendale had two players yellow carded in the first half and it was only in the last minute of the half that they added a try by Myles Hall after a well rehearsed moved to bring in the blindside wing, Josh Longmore added the conversion to his earlier penalty to make it 15-0 at the break.
Rossendale started the second half strongly and with some powerful running by their number 8 they got momentum and scored two unconverted tries. Stockport set up a great attack with good running by Jonnie Edwards from fullback and the centres but what should have been a scoring pass was intercepted by the Rossendale fullback, who ran 60 metres to score, again there was no conversion. Rossendale kept up the pressure and as Stockport tried to run out of defence the ball was turned over and the Rossendale wing ran in to score under the posts and they kicked their only conversion to make it 30-15.
