Stockport had to grind out a win after a promising start at Rochdale. Having been dominant for the first 20 minutes they got to half time with only a 3 point lead. There were three good scoring chances created but the Rochdale defence somehow got to wing Newton as he seemed certain to score after a good movement, Drew's scoring pass was not held after the fullback had a good run down the left and some great forward driving was frustrated by a determined Rochdale defence. The game then turned as Rochdale got into their stride and it was the home side that created the chances during the second and third quarters of the game but Stockport defended well while not being able to get out of their own half.
Eventually an excellent clearance kick from Aiden Doyle the young Stockport replacement fly half took play to halfway on 60 minutes and this proved a turning point, galvanising the Stockport forwards and the visitors created all the pressure during the last quarter, there were two narrowly missed penalty attempts and eventually a penalty try was awarded as Rochdale offended at a scrum under the posts. The conversion made the final score 10-0 to Stockport.
With Morley getting a bonus point win Stockport have lost their place at the top of the table, but remain 9 ponts clear of Penrith in 3rd place.
