Despite making what looked like a good start, running the ball well, making many good tackles and controlling much of the game, Stockport only came away with a try bonus point from Otley, going down 32-22.

Stockport gave Otley two easy tries in the first half, one from a knock on and one interception and lost Dan Eccles as he was sent off at the end of the half as he took matters into his own hands when the referee failed to penalised some foul play by Otley. Despite giving away another soft try in the second half and being one man short Stockport’s defence and some good attacks meant the half was drawn 12-12 but it was not enough to overcome the first half deficit.
A pass was knocked on as Stockport were running well into the Otley half, the Otley centre picked up the loose ball and ran in unopposed for an unconverted try. An easy penalty chance was missed by Stockport before fullback James Drew scored after a good catch by Nick Smith from the kick off allowed Alex Zavalis-Roebuck to make a good break and put Drew clear. There was no conversion (5-5). Otley looked to have scored a try but Stockport held it up, a penalty had been conceded earlier and Otley added the 3 points. Handling errors prevented Stockport from gaining any real momentum and a good move went wrong as Otley got an easy interception to get a converted try. Stockport were then patient as they went through several phases into the Otley 22 and Mike Waddington went blind to beat the defence and put Drew in for his second try, with no conversion it was 10-15. As Stockport failed to secure the kick off Eccles was sent off and Otley scored from the lineout following the penalty to make it 10-20 at the break.
Otley won the ball in their 22 and the right wing was able to kick over Drew and had the pace to gather and score, with the conversion it looked as if with one man down Stockport would be in for a tough half. but despite struggling to get into the Otley half the defence was good apart from one occasion when the Otley No 7 took a poor line out throw and ran through some weak tackles to put the home side 32-10 up. Stockport rallied and good tries from Mike Waddington, running in from the 22 and Myles Hall who ran in after a good passing move, together with a conversion by Geary made it 32-22 and a bonus point.
