Stockport trip to Bromsgrove on Saturday brought to a close the first half of their league fixtures for this season. These 15 games have only brought a single win but in no way does this reflect the total commitment of the players in the face of an injury

The pitch at Bromsgrove was very heavy and Bromsgrove enjoyed spent nearly the entire first 40 minutes in the Stockport half. For the first 30 minutes Stockport kept the home side’s scoring down to 3 points despite having 2 players yellow carded. With both of them restored Bromsgrove then crossed for two converted tries for a 17-0 lead.
The 2nd half was a very different affair. The first change was that Stockport managed to nearly totally eradicate the huge penalty count they had run up in the first half. The second change was that they started to take the game to Bromsgrove and showed that it was still possible to play running rugby in heavy conditions. Wing Elliott Fletcher and centre Sam James linked up to cover 60 metres and score a try after 8 minutes of the 2nd half.
A further 8 minutes later a Sam James kick ahead brought play back to within yards of the Bromsgrove line and Stockport’s Myles Hall went over for another try. 17-10. The home side were starting to rock and there was no surprise went Stockport centre Jamie Antony made a well angled run to under the posts. With Alex Zavalis-Roebuck adding a conversion the scores were all square. 17-17.
With 13 minutes remaining the home side came back to life laid siege to the Stockport line for some time until they eventually found players free to the left of the posts and scored the winning try. 22-17. Stockport ended the game battering away at the Bromsgrove line and in the knowledge that it had been a brave and determined performance. This Saturday they play host to Caldy at Headlands Road . The kickoff is at 2.0pm.
