A series of penalties, turnovers and missed tackles meant that Stockport conceded tries just after they had scored and even with 3 Hull players put into the sin bin (two at the same time at the end of the first half) Stockport never asserted any superiority. There were some good scores by Stockport, with Mike Waddington, prominent as the best forward scoring one. The final score of 49-24 to the visitors meant Stockport could not secure a bonus point.
Huddersfield were on the board with a score after 5 minutes with a drive from lineout following a penalty, soon after an easy try followed as the Hull backs moved the ball following a drive down the middle to put the visitors 14-0 up. Stockport replied with a penalty before a good Stockport attack ended with the Hull No 7 receiving a yellow card . Stockport kept up the pressure and with a second Hull player sent to the sin bin prop James Flynn took a tap penalty and was over the line to make it 14-10 to Hull. Hull scored an easy try as they claimed the kick off and ran through the Stockport defence. Despite having only 13 men Hull scored again before half time as the full back cut through and despite being held up over the line, Huddersfield scored from the subsequent scrum to make it 28-10 at half time.
Stockport made a good start to the second half, with a good run by Elliot Fletcher down the right, the ball was recycled and moved left for Alex Zavallis-Roebuck to beat the defenders to score. Richard Geary converted to make it 28-17 . Stockport again allowed Hull to reply with an easy score as a pass was intercepted in the Stockport 22. Hull were now well clear at 35-17 and added another converted try. Despite a good try by Waddington after his run set up a position in the Hull 22 the visitors were too far ahead and added another try in the closing minutes to seal a 49-24 win.
