This was probably the best 80 minutes Stockport have had this season, with a young side, without several first choice players the team, led well by stand in captain Sam Cottrell, played with good continuity and created many good attacking positions

Stockport had the majority of possession but a penalty on 74 minutes gave Sheffield a two point lead, leaving a disappointed Stockport team with only a bonus point.
Despite losing fullback Mike Barlow after 20 minutes, Stockport made a positive start and after good recycling a strong run by No 8 Dan Eccles looked to have set up a try scoring chance but his pass went to a Sheffield player, who was penalised for holding on and Alex Zavallis-Roebuck put Stockport ahead with the penalty. Sheffield struck back straight away after a poor clearance kick by Stockport allowed Sheffield to score wide out on the right, with the Stockport defence outflanked. The conversion put Sheffield ahead at 3-7 on 29 minutes. More great passing by Stockport allowed Nick Smith to run into the 22 and Jack Wilson was tackled just short of the line but a penalty for offside allowed Stockport to convert another penalty for 6-7. Sheffield replied with another penalty before Stockport scored a try with Jamie Anthony being driven over after a period of good continuity, there was no conversion but Stockport were ahead 11-10 at half time.
Early in the second half fly half Zavallis-Roebuck hacked on a loose ball on half way and managing to pick up the ball in the Sheffield 22 he created the chance for the ball to get to Jack Wilson for a score near the posts. The conversion was added and Stockport led 18-10 after 48 minutes. Sheffield’s strong running centre created a try for the visitors as he broke the defensive tackles and with the conversion Sheffield were back within a point. With both sides having chances spoiled by penalties or handling errors it looked as if Stockport would hang on but a penalty in the last few minutes gave Sheffield the victory and a consolation bonus point to Stockport.
