Stockport completed the double over visitors Westoe, who were second in the table before today’s game.

It was a much improved performance by Stockport with more positive running and great linking between forwards and backs and some stalwart defence. The lead changed hands 6 times before Stockport got ahead with a bonus point try in the last quarter and then scored a fifth try to seal the victory in the last minute. This win puts Stockport back into 7th place in the league.
Stockport made a very positive start and as the ball was won on the left, Josh Longmore sent a kick cross field and Gregg Newton took the ball and committed the defender to put Tom Cruse in on the inside, Longmore added the conversion and Stockport were 7-0 after only 4 minutes. There was a great tempo to the game but as a Stockport attack broke down the Westoe full back kicked ahead and was able to charge down Scott Redfern’s attempt to reply and the fullback was able to collect the ball and run in a try. With no conversion Stockport retained the lead but it was only minutes before a drive from a lineout following a penalty gave Westoe a converted try and the lead 12-7. Stockport showed great domination at the scrum and after good play in the Westoe 22 the visitors No 7 was sin binned for a scrum offence. Stockport took advantage winning the following scrum and moving the ball right, Cruse again came into the line and went through the gap for his second try. Longmore converted. However in overtime at the end of the half Westoe pressure resulted in a try for their centre, which was converted to leave the visitors 19-14 up at half time.
Stockport made a great start to the second half with a try for centre Jamie Anthony after good work by the forwards, Longmore was again on target to put Stockport back in the lead. With one of their wings in the sin bin Stockport were on the attack but good Westoe defence gave their wing an opportunity, desperate defence and a knock saved Stockport but there was a yellow card for Miles Hall and Westoe converted the penalty for a one point lead. Jamie Anthony saved a try when he secured a loose ball and Wesote missed a certain try with a forward pass. Stockport scored with the best movement of the game finished off by replacement, Jordan Pearson to secure the bonus point and the win. A final flourish gave Nic Smith a try after good work by Cruse and Newton , Longmore completed the conversion.
