Stockport made the long trek North to Westoe and returned with a bonus point win.

Stockport travelled to Tyneside to face a Westoe side undefeated at home for 20 months. Stockport started the first half with the advantage of the slope. There was 20 minutes on the clock before Port scored their first try following a succession of forward drives enabling Jordan Pearson to score with Josh Longmore converting. Hitherto, Stockport had failed to take full advantage of the slope and the sides were evenly matched. Almost immediately Westoe scored through their outside centre but failed to convert. Shortly after Port conceded a penalty and ended the half down 7-8.

Failure to take advantage of the slope suggested that Stockport would need to improve significantly and concentrate on their forward strength rather than the high risk play of the first half. An early try from Nick Smith was just reward following forward pressure and strong talking from coach Tim Burgon at the interval.
Again Westoe responded quickly with a well worked try from the full back duly converted. At 12 – 15 to Westoe the advantage swung dramatically back to Stockport when the home side’s influential no 8 was seen to punch his opposite number and a straight red card was a formality. From the ensuing penalty Stockport drove up field and again Nick Smith went over for his second try. This was converted by Josh Longmore.

With Stockport in the ascendancy a brilliant break from French centre Mike Bayssatt released wing Mike Kaciubskyj to score under the posts and Josh Longmore added the extras. 15-26. Having secured a try bonus point Stockport were unlucky not to add a further 7 points when fly half Josh Longmore made an incisive break but stopped inches from the line.

Westoe were not prepared to lose their home without a struggle to the final whistle and with five minutes remaining they scored an unconverted try that put them six points behind. Massive pressure from Westoe failed to produce a further score and the travelling supporters were relieved to hear the final whistle with Port recording their first ever win at Westoe 26 – 20.
