WHAT A DIFFERENCE A WEEK MAKES

The team were again on home ground and were the first into their stride. The visitors, Kendal were under early pressure and survived a penalty kick attempt in the first third minutes.
In the 10th minute Stockport’s fly half Alex Zavalis-Roebuck made a break to within 5 metres of the try line and Jordan Pearson crashed over from close range. With the conversion missed the Stockport faithful were hoping that they would not regret the early squandering of 5 valuable points.
The two teams exchanged penalties and then after half an hour Stockport’s 10 executed a delicate chip ahead and when the ball was recycled Stockport’s Nick Smith forced himself over to score.
Stockport are not averse to a bit of forward grunt and grind but just before half time they found themselves on the receiving end of some of their own medicine. A Kendal try and conversion meant that the home side had a meagre 2 point advantage to show for their dominance of the first 40 minutes. 15-13.
The second half saw the game opened up and after a Zavalis-Roebuck drop goal Stockport executed their best try of the day with a neat off load from Captain Dave Marwick putting wing Jamie Anthony through to score. With the conversion the lead was now. 25-13.
Stockport’s Nick Smith’s 2nd try of the day brought his team the try bonus point and although the visitors scored a 2nd converted try and a penalty it was Stockport who finished the game the stronger with a late try for 2nd row Paul Ralph. 35-23.
