They were a try behind within 5 minutes of the start. They then lapsed into the trap of conceding a succession of penalties and the home side gratefully added three of them to their tally. 14-0. Stockport then seemed t get their heads around the game and particularly the referee and mounted some meaningful attacks and should have converted at least one of them into points. With the wind and the slope against them a 14-0 deficit looked a realistic quest for the 2nd half. Then with halftime beckoning a defensive error at a line out lead Stockport to concede a further try . Half Time 19-0.
Stockport started the 2nd period very positively and after 5 minutes picked up their first points of the game with a penalty. 19-3. Caldy then dug in and after a further 15 minutes had passed they extended their lead with a well worked move that gave their left wing clear space down the line and round to near the posts to aid the conversion. 26-3.
Stockport managed to score the try of day 5 minutes later. Alex Zavallis-Roebuck from fly-half put in a delicate kick behind the advancing Caldy defence . As he raced through to collect the ball he just got to it before the full back. He got a toe to the ball and propelled it over the line. He won the foot race and touched down and added the conversion . 26-10. Stockport tried manfully to further narrow the gap without success.
