Stockport travelled to Sandal for their first fixture of the new year and came up against a well drilled home side who played a very good off loading game and ran good lines to score 14 tries, only one of which their No 10 failed to convert. Stockport replied with a converted try scored by Scott Redfern after he ran 80 metres, having collected a kick by Sandal. Redfern added the conversion and a penalty to give Stockport 10 points to the 96 scored by Sandal.
Once again there was no lack of effort by the Stockport players and they kept battling right to the end but the defence out wide was unable to cope with the attacking lines of the Sandal players or the support running, which allowed them to create holes in the Stockport midfield.
Next week is a home fixture against Doncaster Phoenix.
