Despite Spirited effort Stockport unable to resist Huddersfield.

Stockport’s visitors Huddersfield were top of the table and so this was always expected to be a hard game, but due to injuries and other absences Stockport had 10 changes from the team that had turned out against Waterloo the previous week. Despite the scoreline of 87-0 to Huddersfield the Stockport players stuck to their task and never made it easy for Huddersfield, the spirit of this Stockport team is definitely not in question.

For the first time this season the Stockport front row were bettered by the opposition and so there was pressure in the set pieces and this together with the strong running of the Huddersfield centres and the excellent kicking from hand and from tee by their Number 10 meant that the Stockport players were unable to resist the pressure despite their defensive effort. The visitors notched up 11 converted tries and 2 unconverted, with Stockport unable to reply. The home side’s best effort came when scrum half Dudley Southern took a tap penalty in his 22 and ran well before kicking down field, unfortunately he was unable to gather the ball to put his wing away for a run in.
