Stockport’s difficult start to the season continued with an away defeat by Rossendale. Despite a very spirited second half performance Stockport were unable to add any tries to their one penalty goal kicked by Scott Redfern early in the first half. Rossendale scored 9 tries in total to win by 57-3. Once again the Stockport front row did a great job against bigger opposition and the whole team put in a great effort during the 3rd quarter but were unable to convert the 4 or 5 real chances they had to score tries. Once again Stockport suffered with some bad injuries reducing the already stretched resources, Tom Brennan had to go to hospital with a leg injury.
Rossendale had some real pace in their backs and the Stockport defence was unable to prevent their scoring as early as the 2nd minute. 5 more tries followed to make it 38-3 at half time. An impressive second half effort by Stockport kept the home side at bay until the last 15 minutes, when 3 more tries were added as the Stockport players were unable to keep their momentum and the Rossendale pace took advantage with some tries run in from their own half as Stockport attacks broke down.
Next week is a home fixture against Sandal kick off at 3 pm
