The game at Headlands Road was still in doubt an hour before kickoff. With the number of games re-arranged already both sides wanted to get the game played. Rochdale’s hopes of adding to their first league win the previous week looked on stony ground as early as the 4th minute as Stockport’s pack rumbled 20 yards to the line for Josh Cammiss to touch down. The magnitude of Rochdale’s effort is shown by the fact they had held the league leaders to a 14 point league at half time. (17-3). Stockport other points of the half came from Full Back George Cook and Captain Dave Marwick.
In the second half Rochdale continued their stubborn resistance as Stockport went looking for the try bonus point. Things took a fateful turn for the visitors in the 15th minute of the half when their hard working flanker Lee Riddle was yellow carded as Stockport laid siege to his team’s line.
As soon as he departed the Rochdale resolve seemed to crumble. Over the next 10 minute they conceded two push over tries by Ben Davey and a try from open play through Craig Cooper and the score had gone from 17-3 to 36-3 in 10 minutes. There was still time for Stockport to improve their points difference with tries for Jonny Edwards to go with his 4 conversions , a second for Dave Marwick to make it 6 for him in the season and a well taken try for man of the Match Andy Fuller. Final score 55-3. Next Week Stockport travel to Penrith to defend their 10 point league lead.
