Unplayable At Rossendale: Game was played at Headlands Road: Won + Bonus point: Then news that Chester had lost at Bradford + Bingley. League lead 9pt

Stockport won this fixture, switched to Headlands Road as the Rossendale pitch was unplayable, scoring 6 tries to secure a bonus point and go 9 points clear at the top of the table. From the start Stockport played some well controlled rugby, going through phases and retaining possession well. In a strong first half performance by the forwards Tom Cruse and Ben Davey both made good runs and the defence was good all round as Rossendale did not let Stockport have it all their own way. Having secured the bonus point with 4 first half tries the shape of the game became a bit scrappy in the second half and after two more Stockport tries Rossendale got a consolation try to add to their 3 penalties for a final score of 36-14.
Despite the very good start by Stockport Rossendale were first on the board with a penalty. Tome Cruse made a strong run into the Rossendale half and as the ball was hacked on he dispossessed the Rossendale full back to score a try. Rossendale got a second penalty before Ben Davey picked up a loose ball on halfway and outpaced the defence to score under the posts Jonny Edwards converted. Paul Ralph scored as the defence opened up for him as he peeled from a lineout, Jonny Edwards converted. Rossendale attacked but good defence kept them out before they added their third penalty. Good recycling gave Stockport captain Dave Marwick a try to make it 24-9 at half time.
Centre Craig Cooper made a strong tackle and the loose ball was hacked on and wing Greg Newton beat the defence to control the ball and score for 29-9. Paul Ralph was harshly yellow carded for a high tackle and Rossendale had a period of pressure before Ben Davey was able to run out of defence. Despite the advantage of a strong wind it was into the last 10 minutes before Stockport again created real pressure and after a series of scrums on the Rossendale 5 metre line a penalty try was awarded to take Stockport to 36-9. There was uncontested scrums for the last few minutes after a yellow card was shown to a Rossendale player before Rossendale got their try in the last minute.
