Stockport faced a very positive performance from3rd placed visitors Lymm in the first half, and were unable to get into the game until the final minutes of the half. Lymm were very well organised and kept Stockport in their own half for most of the first 35 minutes. Good Stockport defence and poor finishing by the Lymm backs kept the score to 7-0 to the visitors until Stockport, reduced to 14 by a yellow card for Josh Cammiss, scored a good try in the final play of the half.
Despite their dominance Lymm spurned several scoring chances as they took several wrong options and poor handling prevented them from taking three clear scoring chances and with some missed penalties they could have been well clear by half time. However the home side never gave up and second row Paul Ralph made ground into the Lymm half with a powerful run through the Lymm defenders. His pass allowed hooker Tom Cruse to run in for a try, which Johnny Edwards converted to make it all square 7-7 at half time.
The second half saw a different Stockport. An early penalty to Stockport was cancelled out by a good converted try by Lymm. The home forwards then gained some real dominance and after a good run down the touchline by Steve Pearson, skipper Dave Marwick was able to reach over the line to score, Edwards converted and Stockport were back in front. Another drive by the forwards resulted in a penalty and a yellow card for the Lymm No 8.
Next a charged down clearance kick gave the visitors an easy try and got them within a point. An excellent break by Craig Cooper, supported by his fellow centre Jamie Anthony resulted in a penalty for Stockport. Marwick opted for the kick to touch and No 8 Ben Davey got the try as the forwards had a drive from the lineout, Edwards converted to leave the home side in control.
Stockport secured the try bonus points when Rory Bell was on hand, after man of match Ben Davey had ran through the Lymm defence and stopped just short of the line. Jonny Edwards maintained his 100% kicking record with another conversion to make the final score 34-19.
