Stockport returned from Beverley victorious to remain one of three teams unbeaten in the league this season and in third place. Despite the vicoty and gaining a try scoring bonus point it is a measure of the standards the team has set itself this season that the players were disappointed with their second half performance.
After a first 15 minutes which Beverley dominated and were 3-0 ahead Stockport were prompted by a great run from debutant wing Jack Wilson, which took play into the Beverley 22 and resulted in a try for 2nd row Ralph, Hopkinson converted. A second try followed from a lineout, with Marwick and Ralph creating an opportunity for centre Anthony to force his way over under the posts the conversion was added. Stockport now dominated all aspects of the game and went further ahead when Camuss was presented with an easy try when he took a Beverley lineout and just needed to drop over the line to make it 19-3 at half time.
Early in the second half flanker Wilson scored a Stockport trade mark try with a drive from a lineout after a penalty to touch 5 metres out, with no conversion it was 24 -3 and the bonus point was secured. Apart from adding a further 3 points with a penalty Stockport spent the rest of the half defending resolutely against a very determined Beverley side, which took every opportunity to run the ball and kept the phases going with good recycling. The real positive was how well organised the Stockport defence was, the negative was the inability to relieve the pressure with the kicking from hand proving unreliable. Beverley eventually scored three tries, two of them converted to gain their own bonus point and give a final score of 27-20.
