Apart from a well worked try by Beverley after 8 minutes this was a game in which neither side showed any real invention and both defended well enough to neutralise any attacking moves from their opposition. The home side’s try was converted and this was the only scoring of the first half,
Stockport failed to get their line out working and so the opportunity to create any attacking platform was limited. The Beverley number 12 did make two penetrating runs in the second half but both were contained by good tackles by the Stockport cover.
The sides exchanged penalties during the second half to make the final score 10-7 to Beverley. Despite the loss Stockport remain in sixth place in the table, just in the top half.
Stockport’s next game is against Macclesfield in the Cheshire cup semi-final on Tuesday 18 November.
Stockport’s second team completed a 10-8 win against Manchester seconds, a great achievement as Stockport finished the game with only 14 men. The third team completed a cup victory against Sefton seconds.
