Yes, two teams in successive games. First on were Caernarfon from Wales. At first sight it looked to be a stern challenge for the Headlands Road team. There was another new player on display for Head Coach Tim Burgon to assess. He was a flying Yorkshire youngster, Elliott Fletcher, who took his place on the wing. Elliot has been under the eye of the Sale Sharks Academy after being spotted playing at his home club, Old Brodliens, near Leeds.
It was a bright start for the home side and they soon started to rattle up the points. They scored a total of seven tries which came from all areas of the team. One of pick of them was when hooker Paul Mellea made a quick break into the Welsh 22 and slipped a very neat ball to young prop Jack Keene. On the subject of props, it was one area that Stockport had problems. It was not an issue of quality rather one of quantity due to holiday commitments. When Captain Andy Fuller took a knock to the arm and was withdrawn as a precaution the game had to continue with uncontested scrums.
The second session against White Craigs proved to be a much harder session. This was due in no small part to some understandably weary legs amongst the squad. That said they still showed a high level on commitment to encounter.
