A perfect end to a perfect season

Stockport U17’s made the short trip over to Macclesfield RUFC to face off against old foes Chester in the Cheshire Cup Final. With the sun out but a strong breeze, it was Chester who started the brighter and after missing an eminently kickable penalty, they were soon ahead with an unconverted try in the corner. Stockport were next to strike when goal line pressure resulted in a try for prop Charlie Sadler, converted by fly half Jake Pennington who soon added a penalty to give Stockport a narrow 10-5 lead. Chester then missed another penalty to which Stockport responded with an unconverted try from No.8 Isaac Deans which took Stockport in to the half time break with a slender 15-5 lead.

The second half saw Stockport first out of the blocks with an unconverted try from full back Ben Whelan however Chester against came back with a converted try of their own leaving the scoreline at 20-12. Stockport then produced their best spell of pressure which almost resulted in a score from a line out maul but from the resulting penalty, the ball was moved through the hands to Whelan lurking for his second, converted by Pennington. This seemed to deflate Chester and with the game drawing to a close, the icing was placed on the cake when a well worked backs move saw centre Oliver Wakefield crash over under the posts followed by another Pennington conversion to leave the final score 34-12 to Stockport.
