It’s nice to see some rugby being played!

On Saturday the Stockport Stormers and the Mighty Four's combined for a pre season double header against Manchester and Wythenshawe.

The competition was based on playing 2 x 40 min matches.
First up were Wythenshawe, who are a big, strong and quick team but our pre-match team talk set the tone for us. We have to "out dog" them. Be first at each tackle, show them who's boss and who wants it more.
In the first half this happened in abundance where Stockport raced into a 2 try lead and even had a try disallowed (which was of course a justified try in our book). In the second half it was a try a piece so Stockport ended up 3-1 winners.

With just 10 minutes rest the second game was upon us against Manchester. They were playing their first game of the day, so we're the fresher of the two teams. Manchester put out a mixed team of Vets and Colts who were very quick and strong in the running and this showed in the first part of the first half. Only some rugged defending kept them from scoring quickly. Manchester did get the breakthrough but Stockport replied back in the first half to make it 1 each. The tempo was much the same in the second half, it was frantic but Stockport came through with the victory with a try scored in the final few minutes.

So a very successful days rugby which made the after match pint taste that little bit sweeter.
