Minis and Juniors

At Stockport Rugby Union Football Club we have a strong Minis and Junior Section ; every season we have players who are selected to represent their County.

We run 11 teams from Under 7's to Under 17's, and these are divided into 2 sections: MINIS 6 - 11 age group JUNIORS 12 - 17 age group

The emphasis at Stockport is very much on SAFE FUN. There are qualified RFU coaches throughout the age groups, and parents are also welcome to assist with their son’s or daughter’s team.

For the minis there is a gradual introduction to the game; 6 & 7 year olds commence with 'New Image' or Touch rugby - with minimal contact, progressing each year as different aspects of the game are gradually introduced i.e. tackling, scrums, line outs. (Girls may play in the same teams as the boys up to and including Under 12)

6 - 10 year olds play 9-a-side across the pitch whilst 11 year olds play 12-a-side across the pitch. MINIS train and play on a Sunday; matches average 1 week in 3 (11.00 kick-off) and training is 10.30 am to midday. No lie-ins with Rugby I'm afraid!!!!

Juniors play 15-a-side from on a full size pitch with all but of few of full laws of Rugby Union in place. They play a match most Sundays (11.0 kick-off and training on Wednesdays between 6. 30 pm and 8.00 pm)

All members receive a hot-dog or a burger on days when they play a match, and there are usually plenty available for sale on Sundays that are training days too!! We host and participate in tournaments, and each age group usually has its own annual tour - a 'bonding weekend', where players and parents savour the delicacies of the Rugby tour together.

At Stockport there is a place for everyone - novices and experienced players. If you're interested, don't be shy come along and see what we have to offer. Our Social calendar is interesting and the members are a friendly and welcoming lot.

The season begins on the first Sunday in September, and on behalf of the Coaches, the Committee and myself I would like to extend a hearty welcome for you to come down and see who we are, and what we are, here at STOCKPORT RUGBY CLUB.
