A Message from Richard Hope
15th June 2008

Last year I penned a piece about Colts Rugby at SRUFC at the start of which I said "I don’t think it is in any way an exaggeration to state that the future of Stockport RUFC lies in in the Colts XVs that the club are currently nurturing. For many years the club struggled to sustain a productive Colts structure. As a consequence we suffered from having 5 blank years." The rest of piece went onto to describe the evolution of the present set up which is starting to bear such significant fruit.

Nothing has changed, we still are the future of the club the only difference is that the Senior Club is that much more aware of the fact. Both Colts sides had really successful seasons last time round. The Juniors won the A league and went all the way to the final of Northern Division of the National Colts Cup. The Seniors were unbeaten champions of the C league and got to the last 4 of the Colts League Cup, knocking out two A league sides on the way and only going out narrowly to the eventual winners Glossop.

Enough of the past...what about the future. We potentially have a total squad of 45 to face the new season. Marc Smith and Dave Wilson will be the front runners on the coaching front and I'll continue to be the team's backroom man. I'm sure that by the time we hit the field in anger in September the squad will have started to bond into a really good band of brothers and I look forward to seeing how much we can achieve. We again will look to support the senior sides at the club on Saturdays but our primary objective will be to achieve our potential for the Colts season ahead.
